Trimbach 2001 Pinot Gris, “Réserve Personnelle,” Alsace, France (13%)
$43 at Park Avenue Liquor Shop
So sad that there is so much lackluster Pinot Grigio out there; in the right hands it can be memorable. I recently re-encountered this lovely Pinot Gris from the long-running family of winemakers, Trimbach. This golden-edged, bottle-aged gem smells of rich pear, apple and apricot. It gently coats the tongue offering some earthiness, but still has a surprising, soft-peaked acidity. Perfect for rich seafood or roasted veal with a mushroom jus.
